MAHYTEC tanks rely on the technology of type IV and allow here to offer large volume of storage at moderate pressure, with a mass globally 3 times lighter than the equivalent in steel tanks, traditionally used for this type of storage.
Actually, for autonomous stations, getting rid of the compressing step at the exit of the electrolyzer and to be able to ensure storage for very long periods without maintenance were often reserved for steel tanks at 30 or 40 bar. With those Type IV tanks, MAHYTEC offers an alternative in the same price range but lighter, which means an easier transportation and more flexible access to remote or complex locations, such as mountains, forests or desert areas.
The first installation will be implemented in the course of this summer on RENESTA site. It consists in a set of 3 connected tanks, put in a vertical position to reduce the ground surface and make easier the purge .
The tanks are made of a polymer liner which is reinforced by a composite structure realized by filament winding. In the current configuration , the composite structure resists to a burst pressure of more than 250bar, which allows easily to answer the requirements of life time of structures working at 30 or 40bar, pressure of the electrolyzers. Larger volume or working pressure of 200bar and more where you would need a compressor can however also be stored in some other composites structures.
MAHYTEC is a French company based in Dole, founded in 2008 and specialized in energy storage and conception of hydrogen storage systems for mobile and stationary applications. MAHYTEC is the only company in Europe which proposes solid hydrogen storage and compressed gas storage systems reinforced by a polymer liner and carbon or glass fibers.
